LEGAL OFFICER
Motor Vehicles Insurance Limited (MVIL) is a State-Owned Enterprise that provides Compulsory Third Party Insurance to all vehicle owners in Papua New Guinea. MVIL is now looking to recruit a highly- capable and experienced Legal Officer to be based at our Head Office in Port Moresby.
Reporting to the Senior Legal Officer, the ideal candidate will be responsible for all litigation matters relating to proceedings in the District, National and Supreme Courts, whilst ensuring that MVIL policies, procedures and statutory requirements are complied with. The Legal Officer will also perform commercial law activities as necessary.
Your responsibilities:
- Proficiently review legal documents, analyse legal implications, and provide reliable legal advice on Claims Litigation matters.
- Represent MVIL in claims-related matters in District, National & Supreme Court.
- Liaise with external legal firms in relation to existing litigation claims files.
- Able to draft, interpret and provide sound legal advice in relation to Contracts/Agreements.
- Support Management in negotiating with relevant stakeholders.
Preferred skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Integrity and ethics is a must.
- Degree in Law with Certificate of Admission & a Current Practicing Certificate.
- Minimum of three (3) years related work experience.
- Experience in Commercial Law would be an advantage.
- Well-versed in Compulsory Third Party Insurance Claims processes & regulations (including Civil Litigation processes, Tort & Insurance Law).
- Ability to multi-task & attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong MS Office Suite skills.
