Scope of CTP Insurance Cover

The National Government designed the Motor Vehicles (Third Party) Insurance Act to provide insurance cover in two parts:

1

The first part is to make funds available to an injured person, or to the dependents of a deceased, when the vehicle owner is at fault following a motor vehicle accident. It is important to note that the owner or driver must be liable by law for the injuries or death before compensation is paid.

2

The second part is called Basic Protection Compensation (BPC), which is a very specific cover and only relates to death from a motor vehicle accident. A District Court Magistrate/ Coroner will consider making a Court Order for temporary relief payment (bel kol moni) to prevent disputes.

What’s Covered?

  • Any form of injury caused by at-fault motor vehicle accidents.
  • Death caused by at-fault motor vehicle accidents.
  • What’s Not Covered?

  • Damage to properties.
  • Damage to motor vehicles.
  • The driver at fault or alone.
