Transition of Motor Vehicle Registration and Driver’s License services in NCD

MVIL-RTA-Public-Notice-June-2025

Transition of Motor Vehicle Registration and Driver’s License services in NCD

The Motor Vehicles Insurance Limited (MVIL) and Road Traffic Authority (RTA) have now separated the services of motor vehicle registration and driver licensing in the National Capital District.

Consistent with the RTA Act through a National Gazette on the 16th July, 2024, RTA will focus on its delegated responsibility of motor vehicle registration and driver licensing.

MVIL will focus solely on its statutory function of providing Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance services to motor vehicle owners.

Both parties have been in talks to ensure a smooth transfer of these functions from MVIL to RTA.

The separation of these services were effective as of Monday 2 June, 2025

In light of this transition, MVIL and RTA have released new guidelines regarding Motor Vehicle Insurance, Vehicle Registration, and the Issuance of Driver’s Licenses in
the National Capital District (NCD).

Please read the official documents below:

Clients are advised to familiarize themselves with these changes to avoid delays in vehicle registration and driver license processing.

If you are still unsure of these changes, do not hesitate to call the MVIL customer service hotline on 302 4600 for further information.
